The monastery sits in the Cintulino district overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, surrounded by dramatic mountains and signature Corsican cypress trees. Rich blues, greens, and atmospheric depth capture the island's distinctive landscape. The provenance of this piece is documented by a black and white photograph of the painting with an inscription by the artist's son, maritime painter Jean Rigaud (1912 - 1999). On the verso "I, Jean Rigaud, do herby certify that the painting reproduced on the back, 'Erbalunga (Corse)" (indecipherable) at the bottom on the left, has been painted by my father Pierre-Gaston Rigaud.
